They are about the same price (under $90) I usually have good experience with nVidia products.. but the GA-5AX is gonna need some more juice.. Is the GF3 better overall than the Radeon 8500le?? (minus it doesnt support dual monitors )
Geforce cards don't take up much power...so I'm leaning towards that. Any with any good info.. driver wise... compatability?
GF3-ti500 or Radeon 8500LE 128 MB for GA-5AX.. which one?
radeon 8500LE 128mb or Geforce 3 Ti500 in GA-5AX
I've got a Rad 9100 working well in a GA-5AX, but had all sorts of probs with it in my GA-5AA....well documented in these forums!
I now have a standard GF3 running in my GA-5AA, and I would say it's on a par with the Radeon, but without all the lockups. However the 9100 is running well in the GA-5AX board, which is the same as yours, so it's a tight one to call between the two graphics cards.
Personally I think I would side with the GF3Ti500 in your system, as the driver options are better than ATI's. For the GF card in your system, the 12.90 drivers will work well, although I've found the 14.10's ok too. The much later drivers don't do your setup any favours, so I would recommend the 12.90's. With my K6-3+/550 @600 and the standard GF3 card o/clocked at 240/500, I can scrape 3200 points in 3D2001. With cpu @ 550 and GF3 at default speeds 200/460, I get around 2850-2880. The system doesn't really do the Geforce justice, but every little bit helps!

Pedrogad... I have no problem so far with the Radeon LE (flashed regular bios) in the machine. Its just not enough... I'm looking to putting the Radeon in a different system. I had a GF2 MX Asus V7100 in the machine... it worked beautifully... no hiccups.. nothing... alas I sold it long time ago.. and only recently had the time to ressurect it with the Radeon LE
Thanks for the help guys
I know Radeon 8500's are good cards when the AGP bus is overclocked... but I am buying the GF3 Ti500. Reasons because most likely more stable... the Core/Memory will be clocked accordingly.. not dubbed down like in some OEM models.. However I don't plan on overclocking the bus, also the 9100/9200 series probably is no better than 8500 or GF3 ti500. (gf4 is 20 bux extra... but I hear its a CPU power hog)I've got a 8500LE running on my GA-5AX board and AGP (with sideband) @ 77 MHz ie a 115 MHz FSB.
Can't shed any light on how it compares to a GF since my previous card was a TNT. No problems if you disregard 3Dmark03, always exits to desktop when performing CPU tests.
