DVD, WinXP, K6-X, how do YOU do it?

Post by fla56 »

hey,
just wondering how everyone who watches DVD on their machines does it.

at the moment i'm stuck with Media Player (so no surround sound, no force progressive scan) and still have the same problem i did with write combining (i.e. it's not working (according to K6speed) but Windoze says it is) so i'm dropping frames left, right and centre.

that's even with write posting/DMA supposedly working ;-), lovely VIA chipset...

i've got an ATI 128 card/SBLive! and used to enjoy watching lovely movies on Win98.

anyone else have any joy any other way? no other player works, period, they just don't :-( and if anyone would let me know how to make write combining work i think i'd cry.

me again.
use win dvd it uses 3DNOW!. and find as maney programs as you can that use 3dnow! while you still can
and while your at it always request that programers use it by email or (AMN)
www.a ...

the above only represents a small number of 3dnow programs. ever since the advent of enhanced 3DNOW! publishers went fom putting logos on their software that says 3DNOW! optimised to saying optimised for AMD athlon & Duron Processors.
the beauty of enhanced 3dNOW is that unlike mmx & SSE its backwards compatable with the older 3DNOW! instuction set. it just does not proform as well. but this only holds true if the author is willing to alow the usage of the older instuction set or the user can figure out how to hack the software to do so

that said go bitch to creative labs for not having 3DNOW! drivers for your sound card,
yell at musicmatch for not optimizing musicmatch jukebox to use 3DNOW!, bitch to EA arts for not even considering it, and let microsoft know your want enhanced 3DNOW! suport in Direct X9.

but in the meantime go get this must have software

PicVideo by Pegasus Imaging
Morgan M-JPEG codec V3 by morgan multimedia

Recomended dvd software

ATI DVD by ATI
Cinemaster Software 98 by Quadrant International
DVD Express by Mediamatics
WinDVD by Intervideo, Inc.
XingDVD Xing by Technology Corporation

WAKE UP!!!!!!
BITCH PEOPLE BITCH!!!!!!!!!!
we are still in the game

it's your drivers

if you are using a non-microsoft busmaster driver, get rid of it and install "standard dual PCI IDE controller" instead and your dropped frames will go away.
