Verify BIOS settings on RedHat Linux 9, PowerTweak, k6speed

Post by faus »

I've got a PA-2013 and K6-III+ 450@550 running RH 9. I tried to run PowerTweak for LInux to verify the BIOS features, but there is no mention about the WA or the 15-16M hole. It also only notes 384 MB of the 512 MB of memory, and doesn't report the on-die L2 cache, but only the 1 MB external cache on motherboard.
I downloaded cpuspd and it does correctly identify the 512 MB of memory, so I think Linux is probably recognizing this, but I'd like to find out whether or not the other features are being set correctly. When I try to load k6speed.o, insmod complains that it is compiled with version 2.0 of gcc, and the load fails.
Any ideas of what I should do next to verify the system is "optimal" and/or tweak what is not?
TIA

Maybe the creators of K6speed would be kind enough to give you the source file and you could then recompile it with your newer version of gcc??

Either that or search for another app that fills your needs...

Good Luck :D

Ahh, well it won't post at 500Mhz with manual jumper settings of (5.0 x 100 = 500). I had been stuck at (5.0 x 95 = 475), but I found that I can change my FSB speed from 95 to 100 with CPUCool. It ran days on end with a high load and no problems. I'm glad I can finally get it to run at 500Mhz with CPUCool, but I'm puzzled as to why it can't boot and run stable at 500Mhz with manual jumper settings...Maybe a Windows 98se startup glitch :?:

But ya, I'm happy now that the  CPU has been beaten into submission :D

Oh, and that gives me the idea, maybe the "Guest" could get a copy of CPUCool for Linux?? Not sure if they've made one though...

Did you try 110 * 4.5?

I didn't try that, but I did try 83 x 6, and that didn't work either...

Bah, sorry, when looking at this through hotmail, it won't let you sign in apparently...

At 83Mhz FSB the 1/3 multiplier wouldn't have kicked in, so your PCI bus would have been at 41.5 Mhz. Pretty high.

That could explain it not booting.

At 110Mhz fsb the PCI bus would only be at 36.6. Worth a shot??
