All,
Ok, I've little experience with this . . . I've been looking at getting a color laser printer, particularly the Samsung CLP-500N which I can get for only a small amount more than the CLP-500. I figure, hey, a network printer would be nice.
Anyway, I went through my Add Printer wizard (on Win98) to pretend I was going to add one. Now I've added local printers, and I've added shared printers before, but never a network printer with its own IP address.
Can this be done? The wizard seemed to be looking for printers with a Microsoft Networking name. However, never actually having had a network printer on the system, I don't know if Win9x will find it with just a local IP address.
Anyone have experience with this? Will what I want to do work?
Win9x and network printers... do they play nice together?

it seems that the built in support is a little sketchy in 98 but you can install aditional software to make it work right.
smasung seem to have somthing called ippclient that does it.
aparently you have to add the printer to a local port (like lpt1) and then in the drivers / software you can tell it to look for an ip address.
linky to pdf manual for ippclient http://www.samsung.com/Support/products ... &language=

Thanks... probably the same applies to the CLP-550N which I just discovered. Apparently the 500 uses Samsung's proprietary printing language, whereas the 550 uses PCL and PostScript languages.
*sigh* . . . more research time.........
