WPCredit

Post by Jim »

I have been "monkeying around" with WPCredit lately, in an effort to get more performance from my machine. It is an interesting program, though unfortunately I have not been able to locate English Language instructions for it.

I have managed to enable 4 bank interleave on one of my K6BV3+/66 boards with it, though I do not know if I have done the best possible job of it. There is a definite performance gain, but I suspect that there may be more to be gained. If anybody is familiar with WPCredit, and knows : a) how many banks 2x256 of ram occupy; b) exactly what settings to use for PC133 Ram which is good for 222 operation up to 100 Mhz; please let me know.

Also while checking out the various settings possible, I ran across some for enabling 4x AGP on the Via MVP 3 chipset. Curious about that bunch. Are they safe to try? Athough they probably won't work, assuming they did, what would be the tradeoff?

Do you got the PCR files for it? I have some old ones lying around if it'll help you any. I know at least some of them are for the MVP3.

I have some; but not all. Truth to tell, Iam not even sure what their function is. As best I can tell, if you just set the appropriate device, you can edit and set the existing settings. Please correct that if I am wrong Nohr.

It's been years since I've messed with that stuff. As I recall the PCR file told you what all the bits did for the chipset it had been made for.

OK.. Well this I would very much appreciate: 1) Put what PCR files you have in the download section. (If you can tell me exactly how, I can do the same with mine.) 2) If you have access to English Language instructions for WP Credit Please do the same with that. 3) Since I, (and no doubt others),know very very little about the intricasies of low level tweaking could you perhaps share your knowledge of at least the most obvious don't do's. Thanks. PS : I have never used the chat room here, cause I can't seem to get in there. What I get is a near blank screen with a rectangle containing a small square with a red x in the upper left corner. Comments on that would be appreciated too. If it requires "Outlook Express", then I know the problem. Connection through router - blocked by ISP network server.

I've added my PCR files in to the K6Plus Tweak Utilities download section. I tried to add as much relevant info as I could to the descriptions. If you have more files you'd like to add go ahead and email them to the address in my profile.

As I recall you put the PCR files in the folder WPCREDIT.EXE is in. Then you have to open the program and load the PCR file you're wanting to use and go from there. I'm afraid that's all I remember. I haven't used WPCREDIT since 2001 at the latest.

Your chat problems can probably be answered at the Chat FAQ. The chat link on our site is simply a Java IRC program. You can feel free to avoid it and use the IRC client of your choice if you prefer (as most of us in chat do).

Forgive my ignorance; but I don't know what an IRC Client is.

IRC = Internet Relay Chat

It's a text chat protocol that's been around for ages. You download an IRC client and use it to connect to one of many hundreds of IRC servers. Each server has hundreds if not thousands of channels which are basically multi-user text chat rooms.

The client I use is mIRC which isn't free but has a demo available and is very popular. Or if you prefer open source software you could give XChat a try.

Once you got one installed set your nickname. Then add the following server to the list.
irc.dixiesys.net

Once you're connected use this command to join the K6Plus channel:
/join #k6plus

Let me know if you need more help. :)

Thanks. Will try that, again my ignorance prevents me from knowing what "open source" means. If it means "Free", then that is the route I will go. First, however, I am going to e-mail you the PCR Zip files that I have which differ from those posted. Some may contain some of the same files, but there are varieations or I would not send them. see text file.

Yes open source means completely free and the source code is available to whoever wants it.
