New SolteK SL-75KAV acquisition...

Post by tazwegion »

Well I never had the opportunity before to purchase a SolteK product, so when attending the local PC swapmeet I spied one, well...

This particular little gem is the KT-133A chipset (from my favourite VIA) pretty much the same as the other Abit KT7 adorning my Retro collection, while the On-board sound sucks big-time... the REDSTORM OC'ing bios feature totally rocks! not to mention the ATA100 & AGP pro support

:banana

A self tuning OC facility?... what genius OH YEAH!!!!

Check out those MOSfet heatsinks near the ZIF 462 socket ;)

Yeah... that's right, I was and still am a big Abit fan but after this platform beating the KT7 (KT-133A) for OC'ed stability, I'll look @ Soltek gear in a whole different light from now on ;)

I couldn't help myself... when I had to replace some bulging cap's (seen below) I said goodbye to the passive chipset cooler & hello to a Gigabyte GPU cooler

Where do you get those coolers? Seems you use a lot of them.

They are purchased surplus AFAIK by a guy who then sells them individually @ PC swapmeets... you can't beat the price either $4.00 (cheaper than a retail 40mm fan) :D

I could've gone with a fansink (a.k.a. Vantec IceberQ) but even if the fan fails... there's enough 'meat' on the unit to handle passive cooling ;)

SolteK SL-75KAV update...

Post by tazwegion »

LMAO this is begining to look like a work log :lol

Anyways we recently purchased an LED enhanced webcam, which makes taking inside case shots far easier IMHO

So I thought I'd post the 'pics' of the latest additions to the board, namely 3 new 1000uF 10v capacitors, which I was able to source thanks to the Australian military surplus outlets :D

As you can see I've since ceased re-using capacitors in my 'repair work' after much debate with Jim on the matter :)

Nice to see you haven't changed your excellent workmanship too.
