the "best selling" cpu in terms of price/perfomance ratio  is showing its muscles. still 3 hours to go, price reaches 135$ ..... it seems this is going to become a massacre in the last minutes of this auction.......

edit: and btw, I had good luck and just bought this minute a K6-2+570 !! (yes -seventy!) for CAD 51,-, shipping included. :D

edit2: for those of you who can't afford bidding on the K6-3+-550 I have found a hidden little treasue! a guy is selling a K6-2-550+ together with a K6-2-475 but does not mention the "+" in his headline of the offer! only the text reveals that it is the +-version!! almost nobody seems to be aware of this. currently only 4 bids have been placed and right now the item stands at US$6.00 !!!! hurry up people, the auction Ends Oct-26-05 19:41:10 PDT, only 7 hours to go!!!

I have bought a number of Items from the U.S. where the seller does not want international bids. Most of them are willing to change that position if you are willing to bear the cost of shipping. Why? because they make more money if you (international) outbid U.S. buyers. Thing to do is e-mail the seller in a polite way asking them if they will reconsider shipping to (X-land) because you are interested in the item, intend to bid to win; and are willing to bear the additional cost of shipping to (X-land).

K6-2+550 sold for a hotdog french fries and some beer

I also wanted to place bids, but since I am an international bidder I was directed to stay away. I did what you propose, jim.

but when a nation lives in constant FEAR the following answer from the seller was no surprise:
To answer your question, no I won't send anything
outside the USA. To be honest with you, I guess I just
have a fear of the unknown. I have never sent anything
outside the USA, and I have no idea how to go about
doing it. Thank you for your interest.
first I thought I should tell him that my face is cleanly shaved, I am wearing no turban, that the country I am living in has electrification, a sewage system and some other nice things to offer. and yes, we are connected to something called global postage system. that the people here in my country are THAT much educated  that they see no technical difference in sending a letter to someone in a foreign country or to grandma in another part of the same city. but then I decided to stay away from it because I realized that he might be right: the municipal elections here in vienna from last weekend turned out favourably for the communist party. they tripled in numbers. will they reverse everything? fear of the unknown ....

US $9.53!! I could break in tears ......

I see that the next K6-III+/550ACR is only three days away from auction end and it has already accumulated in excess of $120 US. What is everyones predicted selling price on this one?

k6-3+550 sells awfully well these days. I think the auction will also reach US $150.

http://cgi.ebay.com/AMD-K6-III-550-MHz- ... dZViewItem

edit 31/10/05: sold for US $157.51

here is an offer for a k6-2+550, ending in 3 days:

http://cgi.ebay.com/AMD-K6-2-550MHz-Sup ... dZViewItem

edit 31/10/05: sold for US $41.00

the price difference will reflect what people assume about difference in performance. but this has to be proven.

Looking at the reviews on the two cpus they usually reckon a difference of about 2 to 10% max depending on the benchmark used at the same speed. I reckon that the K6-III+ will probably hit two and a half to three times the price of the K6-2+. Seems like a lot to pay for 128kb of L2 cache. I presume that the K6-III+550 is a much rarer beast than the K6-2+550 and so commands a much higher auction price. Does anyone know the approximate total manufacturing numbers of these cpus?

I have a selection of K6-2+ cpus. 4x500Mhz, 1x533Mhz and 2x550Mhz. They all clock to 600Mhz with appropriate cooling. I only have the 450ACZ as an example of the K6-III+ cpu (recently acquired).

Yes, Jim, you are right. I have done that once or twice already. But, sometimes, it goes just for Canada.

I would think so. My K6-2+ 550s both did. A 570 should maybe go higher. But I would still look for a K6-3+ myself.
