Latest project - AT server case mod...

Post by tazwegion »

Well, I've painted cases, added fans, resized mountings & created removable mobo trays before... but never a blow hole &/or window, let alone all of these mods combined ;)

Basic case theme is black/blue with the compulsory LED illuminations :P, long retangular window & up-graded air flow... wrapped around an Epox MVP3C2/K62-550 combo :D

Here's the initial stage with chassis painted satin black & case cover mustard spray putty/undercoat... and boy it needed it, as the original cover was pretty banged up

Image

Now heres the most imposing feature of the fascia thus far... a 120mm intake, it's destined to have another blue LED fan & 'toxic' style grille (both on order)

:o DUUUUUDE that looks sweet, what sort of case was that before hand? Soooo, any reason for using a K6-2 non plus? ;)

Originally it was a generic AT server rescued from a trip to the landfill, fact is I have 4 in all with one already converted (albeit rough) to ATX standard, a K62-550 is the fastest K6x I own, and plus processors cost a mint down under, as for OS... it'll be my old time favourite 98SE, as the primary reason for construction is a Retro gaming system (Kids)

85% of my games are only supported by 95/98 OS'es

The best example, and favourite game is Xwing Vs. Tie fighter (early LAN head-to-head)

The day Linux is fully supported by gaming software engineers in their releases... William's OS is toast!

Thanks for the offer... but it's no where near finished yet, lets see how it turns out first ;)

If this turns out okay... I'll start on my CoolerMaster Centurion next

I am curious however... did you have those decals specially made (there are places here that do a miniumum of 50) or are they representative of a company/sports team? :)

Neither. They are computer manufacturer case stickers. I found hundreds of them in a dumpster, decided they were'nt too bad looking so salvaged them. They come in 3 varieties. One shows a red half maple leaf, (Canada), with the word Husky, another shows the head of a "Husky" (Looks like a Siberian) with the word Husky, The third is larger, never use them and did'nt salvage many of them. I mainly use the ones you see cause they add a nice discreet splash of colour, and tie in w/ the Superpuppy theme. It gives my machines something in common, sorta like having my own brand of vomit box.

Case mod update...

Post by tazwegion »

Just a little update 'tid bit' for anyone following this case mod, the LED fans arrived in the mail this week... so I got to trimming & installing ;)

Image

Unfortunately, due to the space behind the fascia & dimensions of the 120mm case fan... I had to further 'port out' the chassis (no the purple dinosaur isn't part of the theme :P)

Image

The window plexi will be next (and painting the fascia), would've been done sooner but unfortunately the car required 2 front struts, brake pads & 'caliper rejuvenation'

Please excuse the webcam quality pictures... I was kinda' in a hurry :)
