RAM nifications

Today I got hold of a 512MB ram stick (Kingston ValueRAM, KVR133X64C2/512).
inspired by some success stories of using such a stick in ss7-systems, I gave it a try in an ali-5 gigabyte ga-5ax 5.2 mainboard.
to my disappointment the system did not start beyond counting the size of the ram. to my surprise it counted until 1.024.something, in other words to 1Gigabyte!!
the stick is doublesided and carries 8 chips on each side (infineon HYB39S256800DT-7).
anybody there who could give an educated explanation for this?
