@Uranium235:
Thanks for the site.

@Jim:

Any specific settings questions? I will address CAS, timings, interleaving, and mobo L2 cache. Only used the BIOS settings.

I'm posting from work in this forum, so this info may change when I get home and check my notes. If any memory errors (my memory, not the PC) show up, I will edit this posting.

I think that all FSB speeds were run with 2-way interleaving. The mobo cache was disabled for those FSB speeds greater than 100MHz. CAS was 2 and DRAM timing was SDRAM FAST. The highest core voltage setting (2.3V) occurred during the 6 x 112MHz run.

One correction from my earlier post concerning the 124MHz FSB:
I wrote that the multiplier used was 4.5 and it should have been stated as "5". This multiplier/FSB combination of 5 x 112MHz ran the longest period in Memtest (23 hours and completed 15 passes with no errors). The subsequent runs were ended by me after completing successful runs, although not as long a duration as the 23 hour period.

The motherboard's L2 cache appears to have been the stumbling point for Memtest, along with trying to use 4-way interleaving on this board. That was a surprise and a disappointment to me because my MVP3G2 will run 112MHz FSB with 4-way interleaving and L2 cache enabled. That system uses 640MB of PC100. Strange, huh?

I expected newer RAM modules to be able to run 4-way interleaving.

Here is an observation:
Of the 3 BIOSes that I have for the EPoX boards, the August 6 European one SEEMS to behave more stably than the other two BIOSes. At this point, this statement is merely an unproven observation and does not seem logical.

Though some of it is specific to your board, that seems to me to be very good general information. If someone is having stability issues at the speed they are trying to attain, you have given them a guideline on how to solve them. Ideally, a list of all bios setting relevant to speed would be better though. This or that, enabled or disabled?

You can only use 4-way interleaving if the RAM chips support it.

As for your motherboard cache, can it support higher speeds (again...chip specifications)?

Boy, this chart is all buggered up!!!! Maybe it will display OK in edit mode...Maybe one of the attachments will work...

Here are the settings (below ) I think are of interest:

@ Kachi:
I expected the 4-bank interleaving to be available. I thought that all newer PC100/PC133 RAM module chips were at least 4 bank. I bought these modules from Crucial less than a year ago.

I will have to get the mobo L2 chip markings tonight.

Now you have done it right. I don't have one of those boards; but anyone reading that last post should be able to get theirs to work w/ no problems at any of the aforementioned settings. Thankyou Sir.

@ sylvan

In the last post with the bios settings I assume that the motherboard cache is disabled for for speeds greater than 100fsb rather than enabled? Your earlier post says disabled.

Well I read this all over again and found why my EP-MVP3G-M wouldnt work with more than 512 mb of ram. I set the interleaving to 2x and hey presto it works now with 3x 256mb of ram.

Thanks Sylvan. :)

@ Sylvan : Seems to me that what you have in your ANZ machine should be one of the better performers around here. How come you never post any test results?

YES sylvan, I heartily back jim! we want to see bench numbers, bench numbers .... :) but not only everest scores: superpi, hotcpu and osmark!

I would be most interested in the 4.5x133, 5x133 and 6x112 settings. in one of your former posts you complain about pci/agp being overclocked at higher fsb/sdram speed. why dont you use cpucool for that matter? it features to set the multiplyer and fsb from within windows AND activates a 4-divider if one wishes to run agp/pci at normal speed.

I could give some figures for the Ep-MVP3G2 board with a K6-3+450 (I have the ACZ variety.I also have a K6-3+500ANZ) running with Geforce 2,3,4 cards. One problem I have though is that I cannot get softfsb or cpucool to work in my set up. When I try to install and run cpucool it comes up with an error and will not run. Using softfsb 1.7f or 1.7g I cannot get the program to read the pll even though it is clearly identified in the program, as is the EP-MVP3GM board. OK I think that Sylvan has his Epox board running at 103fsb and must therefore be running either cpucool or softfsb.

I have quite a number of Via boards and ALI boards, but it would take a long time to get all of the benchmarking figures together. Here is a selection of what I have

EPOX---------EP-MVP3GM (Via) 1M
EPOX---------EP-MVP3G2 (Via) 1M
DFI-----------KXV3+/66 (Via) 1M
MSI-----------MS-5169 v4.0 (Ali) 512K
GIGABYTE---GA-5AX v1.3 (Ali) 512K
ASUS---------P5A v1.4 and 1.6 (Ali) 512K
TMC----------Ti5VGF (Via) 2M
TMC----------Ti5VG+ (Via) 1M

All ATX boards.

Gigabyte-----GA5 AA (Ali) 512K
Chaintech----CT5-AGM2 (Via) 512K I think
FIC-----------VA503+ (Via)1M (Voltage regulator may have gone)

All AT boards

At the moment I have the EPOX board and the DFI boards installed and running. With WPCREDIT tweaks the DFI board seems to give the higher figures for Everest. I can post these and I can run the other benchmarks suggested by Peter.

AHHA!!! :D THANKS Stedman!!! So Peter; still going to give up on the DFI??? :P

@ Stedman : See my post re "Overclocking the DFI K6BV3+/66" in the Software and Tweaking section. Don't know if the problem you are having w/ CPU Cool is the same one I ran into; but I solved mine.

@stedman

just in case you are running cpucool from win98(se): I did that while playing with the dfi-board and experienced what you are telling us: cpucool immediately crashes when started (the system displays an error message giving details on some memory page fault) and then another window comes up telling something about "could not find/start setupapi.dll" or so. if that is the case with your setup then I have the solution for this problem. I contacted the author and he sent me a beta-version of cpucool this weekend (16th december). to be precise, he sent me some files that are to be put in the folder where cpucool is installed/runs from, i.e. some files are overwritten. et voilà it worked! :)

if you - or anybody else - wants the patch just pm me.

please be advised that this patch is a "quick shot" for the moment (the version that is/was currently downloadable at www.podien.de on 15th of december) and future versions of cpucool will of course (should) work with win98(se) from start.

@ Peter: When I run into problems like that, (w/ any program, - not just CPU Cool), what I do is go hunting for the named file, make a copy of it; and stick it in the program folder, and Windopes "System" if necessary. BTW, notice you didn't answer my question.
