Regular K6-III and TX chipsets - Disable L3 cache?

Post by KenB »

Hi guys,

Thinking about a TX chipset mobo and a regular K6-III 400.

If I remember correctly, I thought it was perfectly fine idea to disable the mobo's onboard cache.

The reason I'm thinking of this is to eliminate the TC chipset's 64MB performance limit. If I remember correctly, the TX chipset decreases performance somewhat if you install more than 64MB, because of the mobo's L2 tag ram chip.

So if I disable the mobo's L2 cache, would I not overcome that 64MB system RAM performance problem?

TIA.

You will already overcome it by installing the K6-III.

I would leave the Motherboard cache enabled because it will act as an L3 cache...further enhancing performance (in *most* cases).

Thanks.
