my favourite browser is opera (_very_ custumizable and speedy) and when I remember correctly version 11.x is the latest version that you will be able to install on win98. what you need to do is to install the software package KernelEx first (and get accustomed in its usage). please backup your system before applying kernelex!

and go here for download of some older version of opera

re av-software still available for win9x you will be out of luck I guess
but this is no tragedy at all: if you use opera you are doing fine in this regard because of its low distribution rate it is no target for hole-exploitation. also avoid outlook express that comes with win9x, use pegasus-mail instead, which is _very_ safe (and old-fashioned in look and usage I confess, but a swiss-knife for all that matters in mailing).

Well I posted the same question at the "Bleeping Computer" forum and got this answer :

The only one I was able to find is a paid for, previously unknown to me A-V. http://www.srnmicro.com/products/

Solo Antivirus. I have zero experience with this product. Proceed with caution.

Another problem I have been having with SUPERPUPPY 2 is that it does not have a suitable driver installed for using "Flash Sticks". I have tried using my Windows disk to locate a driver for the USB Stick, but can't find one. Any help on this ?

It is the only external USB deice that I use on SP2. The machine has a four port USB thingy installed in one of the back case slots, and device manager shows the ports as being working OK, but if I plug a flash stick into one of them, then the flash stick shows up in device manager as not having a driver installed.

Thankyou very MUCH Don Pedro !! Will; try that as soon as Norton Disk Doctor is finished running. Well I downloaded a bunch of them, and then I downloaded and installed Avast 4.8 Antivirus, which does work with Win98-SE. Its running now; and when it is finished I'll try installing the USB driver.

Did it and it works now !! Thanks again Don Pedro.

Don Pedro, I downloaded "Avast 4.8" from this site :

http://www.filehippo.com/download_avast_antivirus/6635/

and yes you can still get updates for it. There is both a free version, (which I used), and a more features "Paid For Version" available.

Other available Antivirus programs that are supposed to be able to run with Win98-SE are available at :

1) http://clamwin-antivirus.en.softonic.com/

2) http://www.clamwin.com/

3) http://www.srnmicro.com/products/

If you try one of the others, and find that you like it, let me know, because I don't think much of the interface you get with the free version of Avast 4.8. It looks like a Power DVD skin, with not too much info shown while it is running.
