Contest is closed. Before I do the drawing though...

Post by Mr Toastz »

I had a thought, so I'm holding off on the drawing temporarily...

GrahamV, are you indeed serious about offering two CPUs for another drawing? (Assuming the K6III 333 works OK?)

If so, I would be more than happy to send the 333 your way, and then giving the other two CPUs (especially that K6III 450) to two of the others that have entered this drawing...

Does this sound reasonable to everyone? I'm all for displacing CPUs for needy owners!

Like I said, the K6 III 450 is underutilised at the moment (can't go faster than 400 in the Dell system), so *if* the 333 will go at 400 (or, at a pinch 366), then I don't see that I lose anything by doing the swap.

As far as the K6 2+ 450 is concerned, I don't have a home for it. I'm already running the K6 III 450 (above), two K6 III+ 450's (at 600 & 560) and a K6 2+ 550 (at 600). I suppose I could post it on ebay, but is it worth the effort?

So, yes, the K6 2+ is definitely on the table, waiting for somebody to pick it up. The K6 III is available if I can do a painless replacement.

What I'm not sure about is what to do with the 333 if it doesn't work out. Tell you what, put it back into the draw.

Here's a suggested scenario. If I win the 333, I send off the 2+ to the lucky winner. At a later stage, I then put either the III 333 or the III 450 back into the pot. If I don't win the 333, I'll still send off the 2+ as a second prize.

What do you think?

I like it, but need others to concur...

I need a few responses from other people involved in this drawing. I like the idea a lot, but would like to hear from some other contestants before I decide...
<img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... s/wink.gif ALT=";)">

The motherboard that I'd want the k63+ for has 66x5.5 (366) max, so a 450Mhz chip would be a waste in it. The K6-3+/333 would be perfect for the board and have better overall performance than a k6-2+@400 (multi set at 2 for 6x) in this particular application.

Seems like a good idea, though I can certainly understand io333's concern.

Though I think, if I'm not mistaken, that the K6-2+ 400 would every so slightly outperform the K6-III even at 366, for the most part. At the very least, they're tied, but I think the extra MHz gives the K6-2+ a slight edge.

I think . . . it's been a long while since I analyzed in detail. Maybe on average a K6-III @ 366 and a K6-2+ @ 400 perform about the same.

Anyway, I'm not sure exactly how to best distribute the chips for performance and still have a good CPU/CPUs in the pot.

Well, however it works out, I'm more than willing to have the CPUs do the K6-shuffle to get the most people getting the most benefit out of this.
--------------------
FIC PA-2013 2.0 E-O036, K6-2+ 450 @ 500 1.9V

FIC PA-2013 2.0 E-O036, K6-III 450AFX @ 500 2.2V

Acer Quasi-proprietary Mid-Tower with P-II 266

no chance to get in?

Post by Chewbacca1 »

I just came over from the AMDZone K6 forums. I did sell my K6-2+ 500 for $85 a while ago. But then I had probs with my main system, and was then running my old system with a P166MMX @ 250Mhz.

I now wish I still had that "PLUS" CPU in my secondary system. Oh well I guess I'll be coming here more often checking out giveaways.

Chewie.

Tiger Direct??

Post by Chewbacca1 »

Oh yeah,

Tigerdirect.com still lists K6-2+ 450s as in stock. They're selling for $35. That for sure is better than ebay. Unless you really NEED a K6-III+.

Link:

<a href="http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications ...

Chewie.

Mulvihill won the drawing! Way to go man!
<img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... /happy.gif ALT=":D">

Now the only question is... would you prefer the K62+ 450 or the K6III 333?

WooHoo!!! I've won a few things in my lifetime but I think this has to be the first time that I won something that I actually wanted. Thank-you K6plus.
I have a P5A-B that is begging for some full speed L2 cache but since it wants to run at 105 FSB I think that the K6-III 333 would be put to better use in a 66 MHz rig. If the K6-2+ is an option I would be delighted to have it.

Erm, make sure you've got board revision 1.04 or earlier, otherwise I think the plus versions of the chips aren't going to work for you.
--------------------
FIC PA-2013 2.0 E-O036, K6-2+ 450 @ 500 1.9V

FIC PA-2013 2.0 E-O036, K6-III 450AFX @ 500 2.2V

Acer Quasi-proprietary Mid-Tower with P-II 266

Thanks for the heads up King V. Fortunately I am lucky enough to have a 1.04. Were it a 1.05 the K-III would have been the hands-down choice.
Thanks also for making this all possible.
