[Nohr] First K6

Post by Ye Olde Forum »

Posted 6-2-2001 16:48

Got my first K6 around May 2000. Was a K6 300 which I got up to 332.5MHz (3.5x95) on an AOpen AX59 Pro motherboard, 64MB Crucial PC100 CAS2 memory, 2MB PCI Trident video card, 1.4GB 2.5" Toshiba hard drive taken out of a broken down Compaq Presario laptop, SBLive Value sound card with Cambridge Soundworks FPS1000 speakers (at least I had good sound), a flakey 14.4 external Zoom modem which had trouble connecting and often would disconnect while online. I've come a long way since then. My Rigs

1997 I think. First k6 was a k6-233 for an Abit Ax5 mobo, a very reliable setup once I realized the CPU heat mandated using thermal grease (was getting random lockups til I figgered that one out). Next came a k62-400 in an FIC 503+ mobo in 1999. Then in 2000 a k62+450 for the 503+, then a k62-500 for use in some $10 mobos I bought off the "RMA" table at a local shop's "going out of business" sale (all 5 boards worked, and only one had a small resistor problem in the printer interface circuitry), then a k63+450, then another k63+450, ahhhhrrrggggghhhh, I'm addicted!
Best regards,KyleK6speed URL:http://msnhomepages.talkcity.com/cerfst ...

April 1998. I traded a Pentium Pro 150 for a K6-2 266 (dude needed another Pro for SMP and I had lots of them). The K6-2 overclocked to 300 MHz and it is still up and running from time to time.

My second K6 was a K6-III 450 in June of 2000, and my third was a K6-III+ 450 in April 2001.

FIC VA-503+, Rev. 1.2, AMD K6-III+ 450@550MHz, 80GB Seagate ATA-100, 3dfx Voodoo3 3500 TV, TB Montego II Quadzilla, Win98se, 384MB PC100

Compaq Presario 1273, AMD K6-III+ 450@400MHz 1.8v, 40GB Samsung 5400RPM, extremely hacked Win98SE, 288 (yes, 288!) MB RAM
(Also an AMD FX-8350, which does the heavy lifting these days...)

Sorry about the delay, I've had family in from Texas since the 1st. Anyway, first of all I am now "AZK6er" a.k.a. "Desert_Dog". I'm in Apache Junction, about 35-40 miles east of Phoenix. In 1999 I got the original K6 233. This was prior to the K6-2.
Back then AMD was competeing with their own version of
Intel's MMX processor. Shortly thereafter, the P2 was released and AMD had to scramble to release the K6-2 (the 3dNow enhanced version) to compensate for their poor FPU perfomance.

well last year my pentium 120 with 8mb ram, 2mb video and 1.2gig harddrive was starting to not run very fast so I saved up my money and and got a 503+, 64mb ram, sis6326 video card and a k6-2 500mhz piace of shit cpu, NOTHING seemed faster, so I kept look on internet trading sites when I found some on with a k6-III+ 450 that did not work in his mobo so I emailed him asking if he would like to trade and he did, a week later I had a k6-III+ man was that I big speed jump!
dual athlon 8.2ghz2gigs ddr ramabit hobo I mean mobo1000gig harddrivewindows xp build 9000
