Cooling and i430vx question

Post by Rob3435 »

I'm currently running a k6-3+ at 550 (win2000), 600 (win98se) with a stock k6-2 400 heatsink fan. I've been able to over clock to 630 6*105 with nomore extra cooling but to remain stable for more than 2 minustes at 660 6*110 I've needed an extra house fan to blow on the side of the open case.

I've noticed while doing mpeg-4 encoding at 600 the cpu reached 111 degrees F. Using Epox's motherboard temperature porgram. I was wondering what is the best heatsink/fan for this cpu. There is a couple of capacters so I can't have anything much biger than the socket itself.

Next
I have a spare computer that the rest of my family uses. It contains an i430vx motherboard. There is a spot on it that allows the use of a voltage regulator to use a split voltage on mmx and k6 chips.
Currently it's using a no mmx p 166.
I have a spare k6-2 400 i would like to try and possibly my backup k6-3+ 450 (605 max so far).

Thanks
Robert

System specs
K6-3+ 450 @ 600
Epox Mvp4A
160 Mb pc100 stable at 110
WD 15.7 ATA66/7200
Stb voodoo2 12mb
Hollywood+ DVD Decoder
SB Live X-Gamer
ALL In wonder 128 pci 32mb
Pioneer 16x DVD
Lite on 12/10/32
Win2000 sp2
win98se
Old Packard Bell Monitor

You have several options.

I use the Thermoengine on my CPU with the Delta fan, and while it does an outstanding job, pairing it with al delta is a little extreme.

I understand the Thermoengine guys have a slightly slower fan (6500 RPM) that is much quieter and does nearly as good a job; certainly more than sufficient for your trusty SS7 here. As soon as I order the slower fan, I will let you all know where I acquired it from.

I haven't used any of the other latest competitors, but I am sure others will jump in here with recommendations (WBK 38?).
My sig
