OOPS!!

Post by AZK6er »

I use Outlook Express 6.00.2600.000 and Hotmail. For ANYONE that uses that same combination be advised of a potential catastrophe.

------ Problem... ------

I have been getting SPAM lately, ALOT of SPAM in my opinion, some 25 to 30 pieces per day. It drives me nuts. I HATE it!

------ What to do ??? ------

I thought, "if I erased my address book in Hotmail, then configured my account to not except any mail except for those that were in my address book (my now empty address book) then I could short circuit all the SPAM I was getting", but I needed to transfer my address book from Outlook Express to my now empty Hotmail address book so that I could get emails from those people and those people only, like Toast, blue, Nohr, friends, relitives and the like. SIMPLE right? All I had to do was empty my Hotmail address book, then go to Outlook Express and click on Address Book, Tools, then click on Synchronize Now and walla!!! My Outlook Express address book is now transfered to Hotmail. -------- WROOONNNG!!!!!

You guessed it, I just wiped out my entire address book from Outlook Express 6. I had already erased my address book from Hotmail, so, I HAD NOTHING!! Zip, Zilch, Nadda, No Mas, EMPTY as the Arizona Desert.

------ What to do ??? ------ (seems I've been THERE before)

I've got Nortons SystemWorks 2001 if all else fails, but first, just check my trash folder in Hotmail, EMPTY. OK then, check my deleted items in Outlook Express, EMPTY. This is not good, but I still got Nortons, HAH !! NO HELP AT ALL, for recovering my Outlook Express address book, Not 1 damned bit, nothing.

------ AZK6er is a RETARD. ------

I was talking to my Brother-In-Law a day later and he said "oh yea, I read about that very same thing happening in one of the Screen Savers news letters a while back". I didn't say anything, but I thought to myself, wait a min., I get the Screen Savers news letter (and have been for the last year and a half). DOH!

So if you have this same combination here's the deal, when you click on "Synchronize Now" in Outlook Express address book, what will happen is your address book in Outlook Express will mirror your address book in HOTMAIL, not the other way around. I can copy my address book (via Synchronize Now) from Hotmail TO Outlook Express, but not the reverse (at least I have not found a way to do it without hand typing every address into Hotmail 1 by 1).

I later went back thru the Help files in Hotmail AND Outlook Express and found nothing that would have tipped me off to this potential disaster.

Thanks alot Microsoft.

you know its so damn funny, everyone I know that uses Hotmail gets porn spam, or just mad amounts of spam, I tell them "get a yahoo account" but its like they never hear it. GET OFF OH HOTMAIL! ITS THE SORCE OF ALL YOUR PROBLEMS!
its its not hard to write your buddys emails down then send them each an email say what your new email is.
if you cant fix your own problems of at least find a way to, then there is no need for you to own a computer.
