I noticed that Interweb now has 12 of the PL-Pro/II on Ebay for $60. I'm thinking of picking one up.

Somehow that picture is both profoundly interesting and ludicrous.

I found a source for the PL-Pro/II the other day. One of Buy.com's partners apparently has some old stock available. They're $60 each. http://www.buy.com/prod/Powerleap-PL-Pro-II-Pentium-Pro-CPU-Upgrade-Adapter/q/loc/101/listingid/23613014/208132105.html I just noticed that Buy.com also has a Power...

I wonder which would be faster, that six-way OverDrive system, or a machine with dual Tualatin 1400s running at 933 on a dual PPro board? I think it would depend heavily on a bunch of things, like what you were doing. That is: multimedia manipulation or database serving or something else? Common fe...

Talking about ultimate Socket-8-ness, I ran across this on the Wikipedia discussion page for the Pentium Pro. Someone used an ALR (never heard of it) motherboard that evidently has custom glue logic that allows the use of 6 Pentium II Overdrive cpus, whereas the standard supported by the chip itself...

Pentium Pro Socket 8 slocket hunt is still on

I noticed a post about this on the Hardware/Tech Corner forum, but it really belongs here, I think. I am looking for a socket 8 - slot 1 slocket/slotket. Does anyone have a line on where I might find one? They are mighty rare these days.

Quite a few of the OverDrives were bought up by people who mounted them on Socket 8-to-Slot 1 converters and put them in Pentium II motherboards, getting Xeon performance for much less than the price of a Pentium II Xeon. Not that the OverDrive was cheap--it wasn't--but it wasn't $2000 either. Anot...

Yeah, I'm only posting 6 years later, but who's counting? If you want to put a 16-bit OS on your PPro motherboard, then one option is the Socket 8 Pentium II Overdrive chip. Part number is PODP66X333 and SL2KE. Pros- -300 or 333 MHz, depending on whether you have a 60 or 66 MHz fsb. -Based on the PI...

I too am looking for a Socket 8 slocket. I picked up the part numbers from a Want-It-Now post on Ebay and on the Pentium Pro Wikipedia page. Has anyone had any luck finding any? I have three Pentium II Overdrive processors I'm dying to play with on a 440BX or Via Apollo motherboard. ========= My ret...
