Is 2.5V too much for a 2.2V rated K6-2 350

Post by Chewbacca1 »

Like I've posted before, I bought a K6-2 350 2.2V core from ebay for $13 for my secondary system. I've Oced it to 450 with 2.5V. It froze during boot @ 2.4V. If I'm not totally wrong, The K6-2s had a max allowed voltage of 2.5V. Any suggestions are appreciated.

!!!SHIaT that system just rebooted itself. I guess I might be pushing it here. <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... ns/mad.gif ALT=">:">

Chewie.

update

Post by Chewbacca1 »

Make that 2.6V, seems to be stable now. HWmonitor reports 2.55V and temps lower than 30°C. So I'll be leaving it that way for now. <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... smokin.gif ALT=":smokin">

Chewie.

Should be fine if you have adequate cooling. I used to have a K6-2 350 2.2V overclocked to 400MHz, but it'd only be stable if I ran it at 2.9V. Ran like that for a few months before I upgraded. <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... /happy.gif ALT=":D">
-=-=-=-=-
Nohr's Rigs

cool

Post by Chewbacca1 »

My standard K7 cooler where I had do replace a defective 60mm fan with a 50mm fan I still had around. I dunno how reliable HWmon is but temps haven't exceeded 30°C yet. Is trying to go for 500 toooo much? <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... ns/eek.gif ALT=":eek"> (I'm pretty sure it is)

Chewie.

All of those chips were 2.4v capable anyway; the best of the bunch were sold as 400 and 450 MHz chips with a rating of 2.4v. I've heard plenty of stories of people running them as high as 3.0v and succeeding with good cooling. Those K6-2 chips were pretty tough.

(Also an AMD FX-8350, which does the heavy lifting these days...)

bah you wont be using a k6 long enough to fry it even if you had it at 3.3v just give it as much as it takes to get it stable
vvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvVVVVVVVVVVVV
Athlon XP 1600+@1.82ghz(9x202) V Duron 1.1ghz V pentium 2 350@490
Crucial PC2700 Cas2.5 fastest settings v 384mb pc133 ram V 256mb pc133
Epox 8k9a2+(kt400) V iwill KK266+ V Asus P2B
Radeon 8500@280/340 V matrox g400 V matrox G400
Sound Blaster Live V 20gigs V IBM 13gb
2xWD 20gb 7200 RPM raid 0 setup V 16x10x32 Samsung V Windows XP
1xWD 20gb 7200 RPM V windows XP V No sound
16x10x40 Yamaha burner V 5.1 onboard soundV 32x cd rom
52x Asus CD-ROM V 3com NIC V 3com NIC
vvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvVVVVVVVVVVVV

HW Monitor

Post by jwhickman »

Ya know, I believe each CPU has a standard offset from the sensor reading for what the core temp is actually closer to; the readme should say what it is, and you can enter it into the program...so its probably a bit higher than it appears.

HWmon?

Post by His Royal Majesty King V »

Is this HWmon some sort of software you can download, or part of something built into the motherboard.

If downloadable, where can I get it?

Im pretty sure you can offset the temp in motherboard monitor
vvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvVVVVVVVVVVVV
Athlon XP 1600+@1.82ghz(9x202) V Duron 1.1ghz V pentium 2 350@490
Crucial PC2700 Cas2.5 fastest settings v 384mb pc133 ram V 256mb pc133
Epox 8k9a2+(kt400) V iwill KK266+ V Asus P2B
Radeon 8500@280/340 V matrox g400 V matrox G400
Sound Blaster Live V 20gigs V IBM 13gb
2xWD 20gb 7200 RPM raid 0 setup V 16x10x32 Samsung V Windows XP
1xWD 20gb 7200 RPM V windows XP V No sound
16x10x40 Yamaha burner V 5.1 onboard soundV 32x cd rom
52x Asus CD-ROM V 3com NIC V 3com NIC
vvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvVVVVVVVVVVVV

450 is OK ...for now ...

Post by Chewbacca1 »

I guess I'll keep this CPU @ 450 for a while. The HS is actually COLD to the touch. That is the main reason I am thinking about more in the first place.

Chewie.
