Hynix 256 Meg PC 133 CL2 SDRAM Sticks

Post by Jim »

Is anybody besides me interested in acquiring some of this type of RAM? It supports 2,2,2,6 timings @ 133 MHz, is of the low profile variety, (1.15 inch tall - which means I don't get clearance problems w/ it); and Hynix is from my experience, better than Micron, Infineon, Hyundai, and Kingston. (More Stable Machine)

According to PunkRawker82, Hynix supplies, or did supply, the memory chips for high end ATI cards. (That is in one of the older posts here somewhere.)

I have located a wholesaler who has 200 sticks in stock. My friendly local computer shop is willing to front as a retailer for how ever many we might want to order. I do not know if there is a volume discount; but because this is very old stock, they may be glad to get rid of the lot of it at some reduced price.
I am going to get some whether anyone else does or not. I asked Pat to get a quote for the lot, as well as a price for 3, & 6 sticks for me. How many I can buy for myself right now depends on price. Anyone else interested?

Will try. My credit is good enough to maybe buy the whole lot, if the price goes down enough to get rid of them. Am currently working on getting prices for 1) a few sticks, 2) All of them.

16. The part number is HYM71V32635HCT8P-K, wherein the "K" at the end stands for CL2 @ 133 MHz. You can check them out at the Hynix site and download their complete specs.

Note: Hynix made RAM in both "Low Power", and "Normal Power", in both CL2 & CL3 for PC133. What I have in Superpuppy 3 is "Low Power" CL3 @ 133MHz, and CL2 @ 100 MHz, though in practice it has been capable of holding CL2 @ 103 MHz. The stuff I have found a source for is "Normal Power" CL2 @ 133 MHz unbuffered, double sided, w/ no error correction capability.

This stuff is listed as "EOL", - end of life - they don't make it anymore, so if you are interested let me know. I tried to locate some 18 chip unbuffered SDRAM w/ error correction capability; but sadly, no go.

.
ATTENTION!

those who are going for ECC-modules should be aware that, according to my Asus P5a manual, rev. 1.07, page 47:

"Data integrity mode or ECC is ALWAYS DISABLED when bus speed >= 83MHz ..... "

ie, you can't have it both: running the memory at 100+MHz AND having ECC enbabled.

K, that may be true of a P5A, or a P5A-B, but not true of a DFI K6BV3+/66; or if it is, they don't say anything about it. For that matter it may not even be true of ASUS, because the manuals are often out of date, as compared to the later versions of the hardware. i.e. The hardware gets updated; but the manuals don't.

All of which is irrelevant to this topic anyway, because I could'nt find any ECC Hynix RAM available, at least not "K" series (CL2), though they made it.

Jim,

I am interested in some as well (price will determine quantity), assuming that it is compatiable with PC100 motherboards. I have found that many memory producers no longer offer PC133 modules that are PC100 compatiable. Crucial RAM is, but is pricey.

Yeah, crucial is also MT, (Micron Technology - AKA Mouse Turd), chips.

(i think that the "MT" method of manufacture is to take a short strip of staples, put them in a stapler that bends the prongs outwards, bang them, then put a ball of "MT" on top of the staples; hit it w/ a rolling pin then a cookie cutter; and finally toss it in an oven to bake.)

If you type Hynix in your search engine; and from the results that come up go to "Hynix Semiconductor Human and Digital", then from their menu select product, eol; then from the page that comes up select SDRAM - Module, (Click Module), then from the page that comes up look for "Unbuffered Dimm 256 MB", you will find the 4th item down is "HYM71V32635HCT8P"; click that part number and a page will come up that lists 4 different kinds of "HYM71V32635HCT8P" sticks. There are CL2 & CL3 in both "Low Power" & "Normal Power" - the low power is made for notebooks. Sticks w/ the "H" designation in the last position are CL3 @ 133 MHz. Sticks w/ the "K" designation in the last position are CL2 @ 133 MHz. Yes it is downwards compatable; but if you want to be sure you can download the complete tech specs by clicking on the part number in the "Technical datasheet" area at the bottom of the same page.

EDIT : IMPORTANT NOTE : For those to whom it matters I should have said this RAM supports 2,2,2,5 timings @ 100 MHz ; and 2,2,2,6 timings @ 133 MHz. Do not want to be misleading. Sorry about mistake.

I'm in - let me know the price. Do you have a ball-park price? If so, then I can be more specific as to quantity.

These "K" types are decent CL 2-2-2-6 @133 Low-profile.

I may also be interested in some and may have a buddy in need of a bunch.

Soon as I get them gents, soon as I get them. Am phoning Pat 3 times a day about this, he is working on it. Not easy to do. They usually deal in lots of 10000 or so. But in this case they only have 200 in stock. We are doing all we can. Lines buzy etc. , plus Pat is busy too.

K, here is what has happened. Because the lot is small, they fobbed Pat off on one of their subdistributors. That individual was able to locate 29 of the supposedly 200 sticks available. Price quoted is $58.00 U.S. each. There will of course be some additional charge from them to ship the things; and there may be customs duties, and brokerage fees as well. I will try to get them shipped, (well wrapped), by regular "Airmail", as that tends to reduce the likelyhood of additional expenses.

Once they are in my hands, I will divide the total cost by the number of sticks, to arrive at a final price per unit, with further transhipping added on an individual basis. How anyone wants their's reshipped is up to them.

I will be arranging for Pat to place the order on Monday morning. I will check this thread at around 8:00 AM Toronto time to take a final look at what people want. First come first served.

I would have thought he could do better on the price, especially since he is liquidating his stock.

Name brand CL3 256MB sticks have been going for $40-45 US (on sale) recently...
