In the past I have measured Video Card performance using VSpeed, DXSpeed, and CTCM (/VID switch).

You can really see how the use of Write Combining can affect the video performance...using these DOS based programs.

Hey guys been busy "nursing" a sick cat back to health. Anyway, if you all can wait a few months Im guessing there's going to be a lot more pci/dx9 cards out on the market due to Vista's arrival. ATI in fact has such a card out which will replace the ever-aging dx8.1 pci tier and I've read that it's faster than anything Nvidia or ati currently offer but it's only been spotted in Asian markets. :( Besides the only thing I do play on my K6 that really could use a faster video card is Titan Quest but even with my dx-8.1 card it still runs decently so I can wait a bit longer.

Well this is news 8) A new PCI card from ATI ....I like that , maybe better than a Radeon 9700 Pro ?

Hope they make that one also a A.I.W. model option.

You know lonewolf, I was going to bite the bullet and get the BFG 6200 for my cousin. Now you've got me doubting myself, and made my cousin anxious about his Dell 2400 rig. I could tell him to purchase a nice 300GB hard drive first, (he has 40 gb now) and some more ram. Of course he'll have to wait even further to play games. May I ask, where did you get this information? ATi put out a newsletter? Is nVidia going to follow?

Will it be dumbed down R580 core? A new R600 core maybe, with Vista capability? Know how many pipelines and vertex shaders specifically?

Ideally the P4 2.0 in the Dell could handle 8 to 12 pixel pipelines, with 3 tmu's, and 8-16 shader configurations. Obviously this is being optimistic, but if the chip is made on the .09 u/micron press; it really would not need a huge power supply and will run rather cool. Of course the overclock potential has to be there, also 128-bit memory interface would be a welcome, as well as some fast ram (350-450 [700-900DDR]), with the core being at least 300mHz.

I wont get my hopes up though, but if by chance these cards exceed my expectations, I will proverbially eat my socks.

Edit:
 FVX ME!!! X-bits is one of my favorite sites, its Russian  How could I have missed this....

/goes to find sock from prior evening running regiment

Seems that this NEW PCI ATI Radeon X1300 video card is Alive! ....also only drivers for Win XP/ 2000 though.

A like it already ..... time for a rating test vs several PCI top guns and a few AGP cards. 8)

Now that there is feisable understanding of the intended purpose of this video card I can already see a upgraded model coming through , maybe even a dual card configuration. :P

Just picked it up for $105 and change on amazon thx to a couple of gift certificates. Should have it hopefully by Monday. Can't wait to smack some of you AGPers in the benches. :)

Anyone interested in my 9200? Don't everyone jump at once LOL Anyway, I'm embarassed to say what i paid for it but the person who buys it is guaranteed a good laugh, via the receipt :) It has a lifetime warranty and is less than a year old.

Just ordered an ati radeon 9100 pci with 64mb ddr ram, 128 bit memory bus-width, manufactured by visiontek. I tried to find the 128mb ram version but it seems to be not available anymore.

the charge was $49 which is reasonable since it is brand new .... since the $/€ exchange rate is quite favorably right now I will save about $10 :)

oh yes, here is the link to the shop where I found the card. they currently clear their stock.

for the voodoo enthusiasts: they are offering the voodoo 3500 w/ tv-tuner for 38.88.

Bookmarked .... hope you get the card soon to smack peoples , but I assume you will be using Win XP as a O.S. ?

Test it against the 9200 ... :P

Well I got good newz and bad. I got the card but I can't get the ****** to work. Just booting up with a blank screen. I even hooked up a 350 watt psu thinking maybe it was a power issue but it did the same thing, nada. The card says it requires a 3.3 volt pci slot. Don't most of the super socket seven boards have that? When was 5 volt phased out? :(

if I am correctly informed, 3.3v came with pci version 2.2

according to information on the gigabyte website, the ga-5ax rev 5.2 featues pci 2.2

I know that my asus p5a 1.03 does not accept a netgear netcard which requires pci 2.2, but I never tried that with the ga-5ax.

thx for the reply don. Guess maybe ive got the old version of the pci *shrug* I spoke with tech support and I knew more about the card then they did and that wasnt much or maybe i just got someone who didnt give a flying @#$%! . In any case, guess that's what you get nowadays with free tech support. Im at a loss here because i was just informed by the company i got it from that they dont accept returns in instances like this. #$%#!

l0new0lf,

since you are our pioneer here for using a modern pci-card (and you already shelled the extra money) why not give it a try with a ga-5a 5.2? I checked ebay and found several offers, the cheapest right now can be found here.

I recommend to cross-check first that pci 2.2 means support for 3.3v!!! I will try by myself to get more info on that and will report back if I can dig out something usefull.
