want to upgrade my AMD k6 2 366mhz

Post by slagrange »

I have an old Spax Mobo(HP Pavillion 6360) Socket 7
I currently have an AMD k6 2 366 mhz 512kb ram chip.
system ram is 256mg
Is there an upgrade chip that I can use on that system?
Thanks.

Try to get a k6-III 400afx. As your system only supports 66mhz dimms, its the best model8 processor for your mainboard. Maybe a bios flash is needed.

Up to you of course; but I would consider upgrading the mobo before you get a new processor for it. i.e. Try to find a 100MHz FSB board that will fit in there. That way you can use a K6-2+ or K6-3+. I checked out the SPAX mobo for someone else once, and it was not a "Proprietary" board, so you should be able to find something else that will fit.

Thanks guys for both your suggestions.
Does anybody know if the Spax/HP mobo is a baby AT?

Without knowing the number can't be sure. If the machine is an AT it will be. But some machines from that timeframe had baby ATX boards. Is the machine an AT or ATX?

Well it is pretty easy to tell the difference between an AT machine an an ATX machine. You just have to look at the com ports and printer port. If the are an integral part of the mobo its ATX. If they are brackets which bolt to the machine, w/ cables running to plugs that plug into the mobo that is AT. You can get baby boards of either type though you need to know which type you need.
