Do you have the "Maintenance & Service Guide" for this board?

Actually I do , I didn't even think to look there. I only used it to figure the some of the dipswitches.

I do have a update kinda: I installed a K6-3 400mhz 2.4 set @ 2.3 v and @ 400mhz. It worked for about 5 min then froze :( I was testing it by opening applications and what not and I thought that I was set because it was working flawlessly. So I opened a Everest Ultimate edition benchmark to test what everything was reading and towards the end of a 5 min test it then decided to freeze. I was so bummed and I notice the fan doesnt switch on more ofter with either of K6-3's the 450 or the 400. The fan comes on when you could probably not touch the heatsink for too long. I wish I could find out how to adjust the fan to run almost all the time. I was planning on finding this very small power supply I have that is adjustable and run 2 fans on my mobo without using the computers power supply , what do yall think?

I want to see if it is infact the cooling , I said it wasnt before but I am wondering :?: Cause it did run for awhile and the fan did switch on and cool the heatsink.

Keep the ideas coming and I will try and find the info you requested on the chip. To add can I give you the Everest test on my Motherboard? would that tell you?

Thanks

seems, we are approaching the problem.

install the nhc 2.0 program ... or even let everest tell you the cpu temp, if its shown. when the cpu freezes, it will show the last updated temp - thats what we want.
if the heatsink isnt touchable for a long time - it has about 55-60C, the cpu could have up to 70C! your k6-2 versions are afK and acK - max operating temp is 80C. the k6 III 450afX and 400ahX only do till 65C. could probably be the reason ...

best choice for you was to get a k6 2+ acZ (85C), only if (!!) the bios can handle it.

concerning the pll - since the k6 2 worked well with same fsb as the k6 III, it should not be the problem. you dont have to look for it now, there is more work than benefit out of it.

In practise I have found freezing problems at temps a lot lower than the rated 85 C for an ACZ. They will usually freeze at about 50C. Maybe they can take 85C without destroying the chip; but they don't work that hot in my experience.

I did install the NHM 2.0 and everything was working on the program BUT the CPU temp gauge :? I will re-install and see if I can get you guys some readings

Actually I did pick up the AMD K6-2+Plus 475 ACZM 2.0V 8) and it suppose to work on my Presario 8)

depending on how much they are overclocked, i think. 50C is not much for a laptop, so i think these 85C refer to the standart voltage and frequency. if you ran a 450acz with 600, of course, it will say "adieu" over 50C.

once i had the idea to test some cpus on their stability over a range of voltage, temperature and frequency. what you get is kinda instability-area in a 3d-diagramm. because T = f(frequ;U) there would be some interesting analytical data to solve. but its simply too much work ...

to know, if there can be a problem with the agp/pci speed, u need to tell the specs of one part on the mobo - the pll, which controls fsb, pci and agp speeds. if you have free access to the mobo, tell me.

the best you can do is replacing the k6-3 and try out with same dip switches your k6-2. with the 66mhz x 6 (x2) 400mhz @2,25V. if the problem still exists ... hmm. give back the cpu, maybe?

ah - which model is your k6-2 400? afq or afr?
I dont see my bios screen , I havent for about a year , I know its Phoenix , but I couldnt tell ya if it recognizes the CPU well.
I got to the bios screen and it goes away really fast .

Where do I find the pll? I have open access cause its opened 24/7
(No keyboard , cover,) And the desktop heat sink and fan is installed

I dont think I can hit 66 mhz
75MHz 4=on 5=on

83MHz 4=off 5=on

95MHz 4=on 5=off

100MHz 4=off 5=off

And I am using a choice of 2 different CPU's right now the K6-2/400ACK(currently)2.0v , the other K6-2/400AFK 2.2v

Thankyou
FWIW, on my Compaq 1692 laptop, if you set SW1 DIP 10 to *on*, it changes all the FSB settings:

60Mhz 4 = on 5 = on (75 when #10 is *off*)

66.8Mhz 4 = off 5 = on (83 when #10 is *off*)

91.5Mhz 4 = off 5 = off (100 when #10 is *off*)

96.2Mhz 4 = on 5 = off (95 when #10 is *off*)

AFAICT, that was to allow settings like 433/96.2 (my 1692's original specs).
